THE MUSICAL TAROT

The Musical Tarot is a through-composed cycle about the 22 trumps of the tarot. For each card, from the Fool to the World, there is a piece of its own lasting two to three minutes, about an hour of music in total. Each card has its own character, sometimes quiet and wide, sometimes wild and dance-like.

A large ensemble of students from the HMT Leipzig brings together sounds from many different eras: from lute and theorbo to strings and winds, voice, piano and organ, all the way to a wide range of percussion and live electronics. Everything is heard with electronic amplification and different lighting moods.

The idea came about together with Stefan Rapp, who is also interested in tarot. What started with first conversations in February 2025 gradually grew into a whole concert evening.
